The issue concludes with four reviews. The first, by Tim Riney,
compares two major texts dealing with English sounds, by A. C.
Gimson and Peter Roach. Richard J. Marshall reviews Bernard Spol-
sky's theoretical model of the conditions for language learning, and
Sandra S. Ishikawa describes a collection of essays dealing with
second language writing. The final review, by Ronald Sheen, summarizes
major articles drawn from issues of the ELT Journal published
between 1982 and 1988 and now published in book fonn.
