This paper explores and discusses the usefulness
and limitations of language proficiency interview
testing. The prominent testing model is described
and critiqued. Limitations of this model and this
type of testing are discussed and the resultant
modifications are surveyed. A process for the
development of interview tests which are valid,
reliable and practical is' proposed and explained,
and numerous practical suggestions concerning the
designing, administering and rating of such ,interview
tests are made.
