Programme Director (12/31)

A leading educational services company, based in Tokyo, is looking for an English Programme Director to start in March 2018. This is a key position working in educational course and material design, management, training and development.

Job details: 

The right candidate will possess:

* Extensive experience teaching English to Japanese students of all levels.
* Experience teaching at private junior and/or senior high schools in Japan.
* Teaching qualifications; preferably MA in TESOL or linguistics or current MA student.
* Proven experience in course and syllabus design.
* A high level of grammatical and linguistic knowledge.
* Excellent Japanese skills; at least level 2 on the JPLT, preferably level 1 as the job requires giving presentations in Japanese as well as Japanese to English translation.
* Extensive experience in personnel management.
* Knowledge of the Japanese educational system.
* Adequate computer skills
* Cultural sensitivity, a professional outlook, commitment, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills.
* Visa and current residence.
* Knowledge of French an asset, but not necessary.

Main responsibilities:

* Designing and updating courses and materials for junior and senior high schools.
* Management of 50 to 60 English teachers working at private junior and senior high schools in the Kanto area.
* Lesson observation and feedback.
* Training for new instructors.
* Personnel and human resource management; hiring new teachers, creating contracts, resolving issues.
* Teaching classes and giving presentations and seminars; particularly in the field of academic writing.
* Coordinating and attending overnight summer camps and other extra-curricular activities.
* Arranging substitute teachers and other scheduling matters.
* Managing correspondence courses.
* New course development and innovation.
* Sales and marketing.
* Translation of documents.

Working Conditions:

Location: Head office located in central Tokyo. Client schools are located in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Chiba. This position will require regular visits to all client locations. Applicant must be located or able to relocate within commuting distance of head office and client locations.

Working hours: 8:30~17:00, Monday to Friday. However, some flexibility, including occasional overtime and weekend work required. Time off in lieu to compensate.

Salary: 400,000 ~ 450,000 yen/month depending on experience and qualifications. Future pay rises possible. Social insurance and all travel expenses reimbursed.

Contract: Initial one-year contract including probation period. Upon mutual agreement, full-time 正社員 status may be conferred after completion of initial contract.

Holidays: 2 weeks summer, 2 weeks winter vacation and national holidays.

This position will officially begin on April 1st, 2018. However, in order to facilitate a seamless transition and provide time for training, the ideal candidate will be available to start from March 1st.
