The contract is for 30 hours of work a week, with up to 18 hours of teaching. Teachers must be able to teach all types including General English and Exams preparation courses for adults, students in universities, students in junior high and elementary schools and Young Learners.

The British Council Tokyo Teaching Centre is looking for qualified and experienced teachers to join our large and dynamic team. The Tokyo Teaching Centre (TC) runs a wide range of courses both on-site and off-site within the city and surrounding areas.

The contract is for 30 hours of work a week, with up to 18 hours per week of classroom contact time. Applicants must be expert speakers of English with a bachelor’s degree who hold the Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Certificate TEFL and have two years or more full-time post-qualification teaching experience. It is also desirable that you hold Cambridge DELTA or Trinity Diploma and/or the CELTA Young Learner Extension or the TYLEC.

It is essential that all teachers must also be capable and willing to teach on all types of courses and projects. This includes teaching adults on General English and Exams preparation courses, students in universities, school students in junior high schools and elementary schools and Young Learners (YL) at kindergarten and elementary school ages.

Successful applicants will be informed of the project or type of work to which they will be initially assigned at the time when offers of employment are made.

Interviews are likely to be held one week after closing date.

Candidates must be eligible to apply for the right to work in Japan. Once offered employment, a Certificate of Eligibility and working visa must be applied for and secured before the candidate can commence work. Should the application be refused for any reason the offer of employment will be withdrawn.

Basic salary is paid monthly at one of the following rates:
CELTA – JPY 262,500/month
DELTA 1 – JPY 277,500/month
Starting salary will be decided according to qualifications and in line with our local pay policy.

In addition there is an annual performance bonus payable in June of the year following contract completion based on the performance of the Teaching Centre and the satisfactory completion of all duties.
