Bringing the World into your Classroom through Video

Chapter: Hamamatsu

Event Date: June, 2007

by Kip Cates. Cates showed how easily local and world issues, such as recycling and the plight of refugees, can be used to foster not only awareness, but also English language applicability and a sense of purpose in the classroom. Cates prepared several video clips and various non-threatening supporting handouts to demonstrate how these types of video can be used to great effect in the typical classroom. Through both the humorous and emotional content of these videos, attendees were inspired to see how such resources can bring English alive in the language learning classroom.
