Here are brief biographies of the many writers who participated in the JALT2006 Conference Proceedings.
- Agawa, Toshie Toshie Agawa teaches at Keisen University in West Tokyo. Her interests include learner autonomy, cooperative learning, learning strategies and communication strategies.

- Ashurova, Umidahon Umidahon Ashurova has been in Japan since 2002. She received her Master's degree in International Politics from Kyushu University. She works as a World Plaza Assistant at Seto Campus of Nanzan University. Her interests include learner development and global issues in language education.
- Bailey, Frank Frank Bailey taught in Japan from 1996-2000, returned in 2005, and is currently teaching at Baiko Gakuin University in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi. His interests include learner motivation, extensive reading and vocabulary development.
- Baird, Pauline Pauline Baird had been in Japan since 2002, and is teaching at Kanazawa Institute of Technology in Ishikawa. Her interests include pedagogies for classroom inquiry, learner empowerment and curriculum design.
- Batty, Aaron Olaf Aaron Olaf Batty is currently a senior lecturer and research coordinator at Kanda University of International studies. His research focuses on language assessment and vocabulary.
- Bollen, David David Bollen has been in Japan since March 2006 teaching at Kanda University of International Studies in Chiba. His research interests are writing and approaches to reading.

- Bower, Jack Jack Bower has been in Japan for five years, and is teaching at Kanda University of International studies in Chiba. His interests include CALL and learner autonomy.
- Bradley, Amanda Amanda Bradley has been in Japan since 1991, and is teaching at Miyazaki International College. Her interests include deep, student-centred, experiential, holistic; in sum, efficient approaches to enjoyable and successful learning, and the attending pedagogy.
- Byrd, Brian Brian Byrd has been teaching English to children in Japan for 22 years.
- Chaikul, Rasami Rasami Chaikul, M.A. in TEFL, has been teaching English in Japan since 2003. She teaches oral communication classes at Sugino Fashion College and international understanding classes at elementary schools. Her research interests include critical literacy and pedagogy, motivation, and learner autonomy.
- Charles, Dean Dean Charles teaches English and Drama at Tokyo Christian Woman's University. He is a licensed NLP Trainer. His interests are in using NLP to accelerate second language acquisition.
- Cholewinski, Michael Michael G. Choleinski teachers at Nagoya University of Foreign Studie. He has lived in Japan for the past 17 years and is currently pursuing a PhD in applied linguistics from the University of Birmingham, where he is researching the development of intrinsic motivatinal values among Japanese EFL learners.
- Claro, Jennifer Jennifer Claro teaches English at Kitami Institute of Technology in Kitami, Hokkaido. Her current research interests are virtual learning environments, online intercultural student exchanges, and how Japanese culture affects student ability to speak English.
- Cornwell, Steve Steve Cornwell has taught English in the United States, Ecuador, China, and Japan. He currently teachers at Osaka Jogakuin College and trains teachers as part of the School for International Training's teacher certificate program.
- Cowie, Neil Neil Cowie is an English teacher in the Foreign Language Education Centre of Okayama University.
- Cullen, Brian Brian Cullen is an associate professor at Nagoya Institute of Technology and a director of Perceptia Press. His research interests include materials development and L2 creativity.
- Da Silva, Dexter Dexter Da Silva is Professor of Educational Psychology at Keisen University, where he has been teaching since 1990. He has recently completed his Ph.D. from the Self-Enhancement and Learning Facilitation (SELF) Centre at the University of Western Sydney. He has also taught ESL and EFL in Australia and Laos.
- Decker, Warren Warren Decker has been in Japan since 2000. He is currently teaching at Momoyama Gakuin University. His intetests include group building and the use of hip-hop in the classroom.
- Droukis, Daniel Daniel Droukis has been teaching English in Japan for over 26 years. He is currently an Associate Professor at Kyushu Kyoritsu University in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. He has co-authored three textbooks and published many papers and articles on language teaching.
- Edwards, Loran Loran Edwards has been teaching at Kansai Gaidai University for two years. She has been a volunteer reader for the Language teacher Peer Support Group. Her interests include study skills and teacher development.

- Engler, Steve Steve Engler has been in Japan since 1999 and is currently teaching at International Christian University. He is mostly interested in classroom-based research.
- Evans, Heidi Heidi Evans has been working in coordinated programs in Japan since 2000 and currently teaches at Ritsumeikan University in Kusatsu. Her research interests include teacher development, curriculum and materials design, and alternative forms of evaluation.
- Fenning, Amy Amy Fenning currently teaches at Kwansei Gakuin University in Sanda, Japan. Her professional interests include teacher training, academic writing, and the teaching of culture. She has taught at universities in Germany, Turkey and the U.S.
- Forster, Douglas Douglas Forster is a full-time lecturer at Japan Women's University. His current research includes film-based EFL instruction, critical discourse analysis, and computer-assisted language learning.
- Frydrychová Klímová, Blanka Blanka Frydrychová Klímová teaches at the Faulty of Informatics and Management of the University of Hradec Králové. Her main field of interest is teaching Business English. In addition, she runs courses in culture and history of Great Britain and the USA. Her main subject of interest at the moment is an analysis on formal written English. She is happily married and has a son, who keeps all the members of the family permanently busy.
- Fujii, Carol Lickenbrock Carol Lickenbrock Fujii has been teaching English for almost 20 years both in the U.S. and Japan. She is currently at Fukuyama University. Her interests include learner autonomy and bilingualism
- Fujimoto, Donna Donna Fujimoto is Associate Professor at Osaka Jogakuin College. She is interested in Conversation Analysis, narrative analysis and teacher education. She also does research on Nikkei identity.
- Fujimoto, Donna Donna Fujimoto teaches at Osaka Jogakuin College and has lived in Japan for over 24 years. She is interested in research on Nikkei identity, on Conversation Analysis and on pragmatics.
- Fujioka, Ken Ken Fujioka is teaching at Keisen University in West Tokyo. His interests include intercultural communication, multi-media instruction, and Japanese-American history.
- Fujiwara, Machiko Machiko Fujiwara has been teaching English to children and publishing materials for over 25 years.
- Fukada, Yoshifumi Yoshifumi Fukada is an associate professor at Meisei University, Tokyo. He received his doctoral degree from the University of San Francisco. His specialty is English pedagogy and sociolinguistics, and his current research interests include TL learning through social interactions outside of classrooms, early English education at home, and curriculum development for English education programs in Japan.
- Gemmell, Paul Paul Gemmell is a teacher at Sapporo Gakuin University, in Hokkaido, Japan. His pedagogical interests are project and immersion based learning and the writing of materials of said learning methods.
- Gillis-Furutaka, Amanda Amanda Gillis-Furutaka has been in Japan since 1988 and works at Kyoto Sangyo University. Her interests include bilingual language acquistion, Japanese and International School education, teaching English language and cultural studies.
- Gledall, Ian Ian Gledall is in the Department of Policy Management at Tohoku Bunka Gakuen University, Sendai, where he encourages Japanese students to nurture their latent English skills and have fun at the same time. He also runs seminars in Marine Policy and a graduate course in Academic Writing.
- Goodmacher, Greg Greg Goodmacher teaches literature, intercultural communication, global issues, and American culture content-based classes at Oita Prefectural College of Arts and Culture. He is very interested in materials development and second language acquisition.
- Haas, Sarah Sarah Haas lived in Japan for 14 years, working until 2006 at Tottori Kankyo Daigaku. She is now teaching/studying at Aston University in Birmingham, UK.
- Hann, Fergus Fergus Hann has been teaching at Kansai Gaidai since 2005.
- Hardy, Thomas Thomas Hardy teaches at Keio University. His interests include language and culture, content-based instruction, student-centered learning, and material development.
- Heigham, Juanita Juanita Heigham is the director of the Communicative English Program at Sugiyama Jogakuen University in Nagoya, Japan. Her research interests include learner independence, curriculum design, and professional development.

- Higgins, Marilyn Marilyn Higgins has been teaching in Japan since 1978 and is currently a professor in the Faculty of International Studies at Yamaguchi Prefectural University. Her special fields of interest combine global issues and moral education (education of the heart) with language learning and community development.
- Hintereder-Emde, Franz Franz Hintereder-Emde has been teaching language, literature and culture at Yamaguchi University since 1988.
- Hisatsune, Ayako Ayako Hisatsune is an Assistant Professor at Kanazawa Institute of Technology, Ishikawa Japan. Her research interests include learner motivation/autonomy, student-centered learning, and learning strategies.
- Hoskins, Chris Christopher A. Hoskins teaches at Akita International University. He has 20 years experience teaching English in Japan in academic and corporate programs. - Hosoya, Joanna Joanna Hosoya came to Japan to teach English during the mid-80s, after training as a Primary School teacher. As a result of marrying a Japanese man she was immersed in Japanese communities. Confounded by an inability to think conceptually at a high level in Japanese, she decided to reaffirm her commitment to her native tongue, by doing a Masters of Education, majoring in Applied Linguistics. It was one of the best experiences of her life, and resulted in exploring many issues related to language acquisition, use and identity. Now she has set her sights upon balancing the demands of being a mother, and developing a stimulating career.
- Howard, Anne Anne Howard is a professor at Miyazaki International University. She is currently pursuing her PH.D and has been active in the Pragmatics SIG.
- Inose, Masae Masae Inose teaches English in a public junior high school in Tochigi. Her interests include content-based teaching, writing skill building, and critical-thinking skill building.
- Isemonger, Ian Ian Isemonger is an Associate Professor at Kochi Women's University. He has held positions at universities in Thailand, S. Korea and Japan. His research interests are in psychometrics, implicit and explicit knowledge, and learner differences.
- Ishikawa, Hiromi Hiromi Ishikawa has obtained her MA in TESOL from Teachers College Columbia University and her BA from Dokkyo University. She has taught English at several public junior high schools in Saitama for nearly 20 years.
- Ishikawa, Mami Mami Ishikawa is teaching at Kyoto Sangyo University at Kyoto. Her interests include autonomous learning, oral presentation, and academic writing.
- Itoi, Yuko Yuko Itoi teaches business English in corporate training courses and English for occupational purposes at vocational schools in Tokyo. Her interests include media-assisted instruction, cognitive learning, and global issues and English education.
- Jones, Brent Brent A. Jones has taught ESL/EFL in Hawaii and Japan since 1987. He is currently teaching for the Faculty of Economics at Kobe Gakuin University and is in charge of their Business English program. His major research interests are L2 learning motivation, extensive reading, materials development and instructional design.
- Katayama, Akemi Akemi Katayama has been teaching Japanese in the US since 1993. She is currently teaching at the University of Texas at Austin. Her interests include second language acquisition and language pedagogy.
- Kawachi, Tomoko Tomoko Kawachi teaches at Seikei University in Tokyo. Her interests include learner autonomy, learner motivation, extensive reading, and intercultural communication.
- Kirchhoff, Cheryl Cheryl Kirchhoff taught Japanese high school students and now teaches at a juinior college. She is intersted in helping students experience success in English learning through group dynamics and extensive listening.
- Kobayashi, Chiho Chiho Kobayashi is a lecturer in the Department of European and American Studies, Faculty of International Culture Studies at Tenri University. Her research interests include vocabulary acquisition and English as an international language.
- Kohyama, Miki Miki Kohyama is a PhD candidate at Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh. Her research interest includes teacher autonomy and transcultural communication. She has co-edited an anthology of papers on learner and teacher autonomy, More Autonomy You Ask, published by JALT LDSIG in November 2006.
- Komai, Kazuhito Kazuhito Komai teaches at Ibaraki University. His research interests include needs analysis, motivation, beliefs, TEFL, vocabulary, and learning strategies.
- Kuru Gonen, S.Ipek S. Ipek Kuru Gonen is a lecturer at Anadolu University,Faculty of Education Department of English Language Teaching and is currently undertaking her PhD on ELT.Her interests include affective factors in language learning,language learning styles and strategies, and preservice teacher training.
- Kusaka, Laura Laura Kusaka has lived in Japan since 1974. She teaches at Aichi University in Toyohashi. Her interests include content-based language teaching, short-term overseas program development, and narrative inquiry.
- Kusanagi, Yuka Yuka Kusanagi teaches English language courses at Akita Prefectural University. Her current interests are nonverbal communication research in language education, drama in language education, and extensive reading.
- Lavin, Richard Rick Lavin works in the Faculty of Environmental and Symbiotic Sciences and associated graduate school at the Prefectural University of Kumamoto, where his interests centre on developing curricula based on massive input and output mediated by computer networks.
- Leachtenauer, Jon Jon Leachtenauer, a graduate of the School for International Training, has been teaching at Kansai Gaidai University since 2002. He also taught at Shirayuri High School in Sendai for 6 years. His interests include group dynamics and classroom management.
- Lee, Alice Alice Lee is a lecturer at the Research Institute of Language Studies and Language Education at Kanda Univesity of International Studies (KUIS) in Japan. She is also Coordinator of the KUIS English Program for Foreign (mostly Chinese/Korean)Students. Her research interests include English language curriculum development/renewal and Japan area studies.
- Li, Li-Te Li-Te Li has been teaching English as a Foreign Language since 1987, and has been teaching EFL writing at university level since 1993. Her interests include reading-writing connection, whole language, student-centered learning, and critical pedagogy.

- Lightburn, Jane Jane Lightburn teaches English as a Foreign Language in Aichi Gaukuin University. Her areas of research are values based education, world folklore, fairytale and myth.
- Long, Robert Robert Long has been lecturer at Kyushu Institute of Technology for 12 years. He has a Specialist Degree in TEFL. Besides taking an active role in editing, his interests lie in pragmatics,and cross-cultural exchanges.
- Loucky, John Paul For 20 years John Paul Loucky has taught all areas of EFL in Japan. His dissertation compared CALL-based vocabulary learning with Audio-Lingual and Sustained Silent Reading methods. - MacGregor, Laura Laura MacGregor is on the faculty at Gakushuin University in Tokyo. She has authored books by MacMillan LanguageHouse, Seibido, and Kaibunsha. - Mark, Poh Leng Poh Leng Mark is teaching at Kanda University of International Studies, Chiba. Her interests include learner autonomy and experiential learning.
- Matsubara, Katsuko Katsuko Matsubara is an associate professor at Aomori Public College. Her research interests include learner motivation, L2 writing and intercultural communication.
- McCarty, Steve Steve McCarty is a Professor at Osaka Jogakuin College. He is the elected President of the World Association for Online Education, an NPO registered in the U.S., from 1998-2007. He teaches English as a Foreign Language (EFL) through topics such as current events, human rights and bilingualism. His Website of online publications, with English and Japanese annotated versions, received a 4-star rating, very useful for research, in 1997, 2001 and 2005 from the Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library. - McMillan, Brian Brian McMillan has been teaching French Immersion in Canada and English in Japan for the past ten years and has just finished his first year of teaching at Kanda University of International Studies in Chiba. His interests include L1 use in L2 learning and learner autonomy.
- Mehmet, Sean Collin Sean Mehmet teaches at the School Of General Education of Shinshu University. He holds a Master of Education degree from the University Of Ottawa, Canada, which was the first bilingual university in the new world. His research interests include intercultural competence, learner motivation, and learner autonomy. As for the long-term future, he aspires to eventually engage in doctoral research applying the psychoanalytic reaearch of R.D. Laing to the field of SLA. Sean Mehmet currently resides in lovely Ueda-shi with his charming spouse Reiko, and their two "kinders," Tara and Duncan.
- Metoki, Mitsutada Mitsutada Metoki has been teaching at Hokkai-Gakuen University and Hokkaido Institute of Technology since spring 2006. His current research interests center on learners' beliefs and strategies in language learning and relating second language acquisition research to classroom methodology.
- Mimura, Chieko Chieko Mimura, Ed.D., is currently teaching EFL/ESP at Sugino Fashion College in Tokyo. Her academic interests include identity in language learning/teaching and in cross-cultural experience, and postmodernist feminism in education.

- Nagasaki, Mutsuko Mutsuko Nagasaki is teaching at Seigakuin University in Saitama. Her interests include task-based language learning and teaching, classroom interaction, and second language acquistion.
- Nakamura, Eiko Eiko Nakamura is now studying in a Ph.D. program in Applied Linguistics at Lancaster University, UK, and is currently teaching part-time at Okayama University and Kawasaki University of Medical Welfare in Kurashiki. Her interest is learner development through task-based learning.
- Nakayama, Akira Akira Nakayama (Ph.D.) is currently a school psychologist and counselor at Ashikaga Institute of Technology in Tochigi, Japan. He is interested in learning strategies and learner beliefs as they relate to language learning.

- Notestine, Russell Russell Notestine comes from Los Angeles, California and has been teaching in Japan since 1991. He received a Master's Degree in TESL from St. Michael's College of Colchester, Vermont in 1990. He has worked at Nanzan Junior College, Meitoku Junior College and is currently a foreign lecturer at Aichi Gakuin University in Nisshin, Japan. His research interests are speech and communication skills as tools for achieving communicative competence in English and the administration of short term study abroad curriculums and programs.
- Okuda, Rieko Rieko Okuda teaches at Ibaraki University. Her research interests include explicit and implicit knowledge in a second language, motivation in L2 learning and world Englishes.
- Osboe, Sarah Sarah Osboe teaches at Kanda University of International Studies in Chiba and has been in Japan since March 2006. Her research interests are writing and cooperative learning.
- Ozumi, Asuka Asuka Ozumi, PhD, is a second generation Japanese. She lives in Italy, where is teaching at CESMEO, Turin. Her interests include bilingualism, translation and JSL teaching.
- Pearson Casanave, Christine Christine Pearson Casanave resides part of the year in California and in the fall teaches at Temple University's Japan Campus in the Graduate College of Education. She spends most of her waking hours reviewing and editing manuscripts of various kinds. She is known for being able to read and walk at the same time.
- Quintero, Daniel Daniel Quintero García has been Visiting Professor of Spanish at Aichi Prefectural University since 2003. He has also been Professor at Kyoto University of Foreign Languages since 2001. He is currently interested in methodological approaches to Non Verbal Communication in the Spanish classroom.
- Quock, Theodore Ted Quock has been teaching in Japan since 1979. He is currently Associate Professor of English Communication at Keisen University in Tokyo. - Ragan Jr., Jarrett Jarrett Ragan has been teaching English for 28 years, in Florida, Malaysia and in Akita Japan from 1990 to 2003. He now designs business training workshops for People Potential a Malaysian Training Company. - Rankin, Monica Monica Rankin is from Canada and teaches in the Engineering Department at Kinki University in Wakayama. She is the coordinator of the English literacy program for young bilingual learners in Wakayama. Her interests include developing student presentation skills and cross-cultural rhetoric.
- Reagan, Nevitt Nevitt Reagan teaches at Kansai Gaidai University.
- Reinelt, Rudolf Rudolf Reinelt has been teaching German an all levels at Ehime University and other educational institutions in Matsuyama since 1981.He is the co-founder of the first practical German teacher training seminar and was asked to start the Other Language Educators SIG in the 1990s. Other interests include the development of writing, politeness, and the use of computer assistance in poor foreign language learning environments.
- Robertson, Martha Martha Robertson teaches in the Department of Comparative Cultures, Aichi University. Before coming to Japan, she taught at Indiana University, Bloomington Indiana. Her special interests are learner autonomy, collaborative learning, and cross-cultural understanding.
- Romney, Cameron Cameron Romney has been in Japan since 1997 and has taught at various institutions and levels. Currently, he is a contract lecuture at Momoyama Gakuin Univeristy.
- Rouault, Greg Greg Rouault has been in Japan since 1999, and is teaching Oral Communication classes at Akashi National College of Technology in Hyogo. His interests include learner autonomy, multiple intelligences, and alternative assessment and evaluation in English for specific purposes (ESP).
- Rubrecht, Brian Brian G. Rubrecht earned his Masters degree in TESOL and Bilingual Education from Georgetown University in 2000 and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 with a doctoral degree in Foreign Language Education. His professional interests include aspects of translation, interpretation, and curriculum development. His research interests include language learning motivation, second language learner autonomy, and cultural aspects that influence the learning of a foreign language.

- Sage, Kristie Kristie Sage has come to Japan to gain more specialised skills in EFL teaching contexts. Kristie teaches at Komazawa and Gakushuin Universities in Tokyo. - Sakayori, Susan Susan Sakayori is originally from Chicago and has been living in Japan since 1974. She teaches at Ryukoku University and Doshisha Women's College. Her key interest is to guide students to be independent learners and culturally aware of the world around them.

- Sato, Kazuyoshi Kazuyoshi Sato teaches at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies. He holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Queensland, Australia. He has written several papers on communicative language teaching and teacher education. His research interests include teacher development, language learning strategies, and curriculum development.
- Seker, Meral Meral Seker has been teaching at Çukurova University, Turkey since 2000. Her interests include Professional Development, Teacher Training, and Teaching Young Learners.
- Sekigawa, Yoko Yoko Sekigawa, Ed.D., teaches at Rikkyo University. Her research interests include classroom discourse analysis, pragmatics, and intercultural communication.
- Shibata, Miki Miki Shibata, PhD, is an associate professor in the Faculty of Law and Letters at University of the Ryukyus, where she teaches various EFL courses and applied linguistics. She also conducts pre-service and in-service teacher training and research in the area of second language acquisition and language learning and teaching. - Shimada, Miori Miori Shimada has been teaching English to various age groups in various schools for more than ten years.Her research interests include: application of picturebooks for EFL setting, global issues for young learners and expansion of textbooks. She currently teaches at Keisen University and Tamagawa University.
- Shimura, Akinobu Akinobu Shimura is teaching at Asahikawa Jitsugyo High School. He is also a graduate student at Hokkaido University of Education Asahikawa. He is currently interested in second language acquisition, code-switching and grammar teaching.
- Silva, Cecilia Cecilia Silva is currently teaching Spanish at Tohoku University, Sendai. She is interested in media literacy, critical literacy, literature, and cultural awareness in foreign language teaching and learning.
- Sisley, Jim Jim Sisley teaches at Kansai Gaidai University.
- Sosa, Miguel Miguel Sosa has a dual career as a musician and an EFL teacher at several Kanto area universities. In addition to playing several piano concerts a year, he is interested in how personal stories can connect students and teachers.
- Squires, Todd Todd Squires is Assistant Professor in the School of Law at Kinki University. His research interest is in how EFL learners construct subjectivities in narrative, and in particular, how institutionally-prescribed subject positions are maintained and contested.
- Ssali, Vick Vick Ssali has been in Japan since 1997, and is working at Nanzan University's Seto Campus. He also teaches part time at Nagoya Women's University in Aichi. His interests include learner autonomy, global issues in language education and teaching English to children.
- Stoeckel, Tim Tim Stoeckel has been in Japan for 10 years and teaches at Kansai Gaidai University.
- Sugino, Toshiko Toshiko Sugino is a professor of English at National Defense Academy. Her research interests include critical pedagogy, academic English, language policy, and immigrant studies.
- Sullivan, Kristen Kristen Sullivan has been teaching at Shimonoseki City University since 2005. Her interests include the use of digital recording in the classroom, extensive online listening, the genre/text approach in EFL classrooms and the teaching/learning/assessment of spoken language. She is currently undertaking an MA in Applied Linguistics (TESOL) at Macquarie University, Australia.
- Suzuki, Satoko Satoko Suzuki teaches English at Aoyama Gakuin University and has taught Japanese in the continuing education department, Temple University, Japan campus. She received her M.Ed in TESOL at Temple University, Japan campus. Her research interests include bilingual education in Japan, mind and language learner behavior, and remedial English instruction.
- Takaki, Nobuyuki Nobuyuki Takaki, PIGATE director since 1993, is a professor at Kumamoto University Faculty of Education. He holds an MA in TESOL from the University of London Institute of Education and has published several books and articles on EFL teacher development, pronunciation teaching, and communicative approaches.
- Tanaka, Hiromasa Hiromasa (Hiro) Tanaka is a professor at Meisei University, Tokyo. His research interests include English and intercultural communication curriculum development in business corporations. In his recent article, "Emerging English-speaking business discourse in Japan" (in Asian business discourse(s) part II: Special issue of Journal of Asian Pacific Communication 16:1), he took a critical discourse analysis approach to investigate business interaction in a Japanese subsidiary of an American multinational corporation.
- Tanaka, Nozomi Nozomi Tanaka has had experiences as a student then teacher in the US for 7 years. She currently works for Ochanomizu University in Tokyo. Her particular fields of interest are Japanese pedagogy, learning styles and SLA. She can be contacted at nozomichan@hotmail.com.
- Tanner, Paul Paul Tanner is from Michigan and was a high school teacher in Florida before coming to Japan in the Showa era. He is employed at Nagoya City University and his research interests are teacher feedback in essay writing, Critical Thinking, and cross-cultural aspects of music.
- Tateyama, Yumiko Yumiko Tateyama teaches at the University of Hawai"i at Manoa, while working on her dissertation. Her research interest includes interlanguage pragmatics, second language learning and teaching, and conversation analysis.
- Thurman, John John Thurman has been teaching in Japan for twenty years at locations in Hokkaido, Ishikawa, Kochi, and Hyogo. He is currently an A.B.D. at Temple University, Japan. His research interests include task-based language teaching and research, language learning motivation, educational statistics, and Rasch-based analysis.
- Tomei, Joseph Joe Tomei is an associate professor at Kumamoto Gakuen University in the Department of English and American Studies. He has a broad range of interests in computer-mediated communication and the use of corpora in language education.
- Toyoda, Kaori Kaori Toyoda teaches part-time at Tokai University. Her interests include development of thinking skills though global education, media-based teaching, and cooperative-learning.
- Trovela, Maria Maria Trovela has been teaching in Japan since 2002, and is teaching at Fukuyama University. Her interests include collaborative learning and learner autonomy.
- Ueda, Atsuko Atsuko Ueda has been with Ibaraki University since 2003. Her research interests include extensive reading, individual differences, multiple intelligence, and communication strategies.
- UEDA, Mami Mami Ueda is teaching at Tokyo University of Technology. Her interests include student motivation and learner autonomy.
- Verity, Deryn Deryn Verity teaches English in Osaka, and in recent years has conducted teacher development seminars in Morocco and Jordan for the US State Department. Her research interests include sociocultural theory, L2 pedagogy, and teacher education.
- Vicente, Leticia Leticia Vicente-Rasoamalala has been Visiting Professor of Spanish at Aichi Prefectural University since 2004. She was previously Visiting Professor of Spanish at the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar (Senegal). She is currently interested in classroom conversational interaction and optimization of input and teacher feedback.
- Wakui, Yoko Yoko Wakui obtained MA in TESOL from Teachers College Columbia University in 2003, teaching at Aoyama Gakuin Junior College and Keisen University. She has co-authored Let's Aim at 750 for the TOEIC Test and More Autonomy You Ask. Her research interest includes autonomy, motivation, psychology.
- Weidensee, Leslie Leslie Weidensee has been with the Inuyama Municipal Government as a teacher in the Inuyama NET program since 1999. She is a co-author of the Inuyama city book series Speak Up! ( Books one, two, and three), currently in use in all four Inuyama city junior high schools. She lives in Inuyama, practices and teaches karate, and occasionally climbs mountains.
- Wiltshier, John John Wiltshier has been a teacher for 17 years, 11 of which were in Japan. John has presented internationally at IATEFL UK, TESOL U.S as well as Columbia University Tokyo and previous JALT conferences. This year he was a speaker on the ETJ Teacher Training Tour held around Japan. He is co-author of the new edition of English Firsthand Access and Success and currently works as an Associate Professor at Miyagi University.
- Yamaga, Naoko Naoko Yamaga currently teaches at Tokyo Junshin Women's College and a doctoral candidate at Temple University, Japan. Her research interests include second language acquisition, language learning motivation for young learners, and pre-service teacher training for early English education.
- Yonesaka, Suzanne Suzanne M. Yonesaka is professor at Hokkai-Gakuen University. Her current research is on beliefs about and use of the L1, and on beliefs and dilemmas of student teachers of English.
